The SMLIGHT SLZB-06MU is a professional-grade, platform-independent Zigbee and Thread network coordinator that solves the most common problem with USB Zigbee sticks: USB interference, limited placement options, and instability caused by the proximity of the dongle to the computer or server. Instead of plugging a dongle directly into your hub, the SLZB-06MU connects over your local network — via wired Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or USB — and streams the Zigbee radio to Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT, or ZHA as if it were connected locally. This means you can place it anywhere in your home for the best possible signal coverage, completely free from the physical location of your server or hub.
At its core, the device runs two dedicated chips: a Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 handles all Zigbee 3.0 and Thread radio communications with a +20dBm integrated amplifier, while an Espressif ESP32-S3 dual-core processor at 240 MHz manages networking, the web interface, and all connectivity logic. Power is supplied via USB Type-C or PoE (IEEE 802.3af) — allowing single-cable installation anywhere you have a PoE-capable network switch, with no separate power adapter required. An external +5dB SMA antenna is included for further signal range improvement.
The SLZB-06MU supports one-click switching between Zigbee Coordinator, Zigbee Router, and Thread/Matter-over-Thread Border Router modes — all from the built-in SLZB-OS web interface, accessible from any browser on your local network. The USB Passthrough feature is a standout addition unique to the MU variant: plug an external USB radio adapter (such as a Z-Wave or additional Bluetooth dongle) into the SLZB-06MU’s USB host port and use it over the network as if it were connected directly to your server — no extra cables to your hub required. Both the EFR32MG21 radio firmware and the ESP32-S3 core firmware can be updated remotely via OTA through the web interface.
Designed and developed in Ukraine by SMLIGHT, the SLZB-06MU ships pre-flashed with SLZB-OS firmware and is ready to use out of the box. It also supports ESPHome and Tasmota as alternative ESP32 core firmware options for advanced DIY users. Multiple SLZB-06MU units can run simultaneously with a single Home Assistant instance, making it ideal for large properties, multi-floor homes, or rental property installations that require broad, reliable Zigbee network coverage throughout the building.
